A painting by Amersham local Ali Mackie called ‘Sleeping Satellite’ was selected for the Royal Academy’s 2023 Summer Exhibition in London.
Mackie relocated to Amersham shortly after starting a family, finding that the quiet and calm of the Chiltern Hills focused her artistic vision. In the years since, her work has been displayed at Stowe National Trust and Waddesdon Manor, and she even won the category for mixed media at Bucks Art Weeks Exhibition last year.
Mackie exclaims that seeing her painting, Sleeping Satellite, at the Royal Academy was “the stuff of dreams”. She was even more delighted when the Royal Academy chose Mackie’s painting as one of a dozen or so to be printed onto postcards and sold at the RA gift shop.
In an overjoyed Facebook post, Mackie writes: “Thank you RA for choosing Sleeping Satellite and making it possible for so many people to see it, like it, heart it, photograph it, take selfies in front of it, talk about it, write about it, say it was their favourite of the whole exhibition (several times over), buy a postcard of it and of course buy the actual marvellous painting to take home and treasure.”
Although the original is indeed sold, you can buy a postcard copy of Mackie’s painting on her website, which is live at www.alimackie.art
