‘ACCESSIBLE CROSSING’: School road safety plans in Abbots Langley to go ahead

Published on: 12th February 2026   |   By: News Desk   |   Category: Uncategorized

Proposed road safety measures near Breakspeare School have sparked debate in Abbots Langley, with plans costing an estimated £130,000.

Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) recently held a consultation until Sunday, January 18, inviting residents to share their views on road improvements near the school.

The proposals included a new zebra crossing and a 20mph zone extension. The results of the consultation were published by HCC and showed that 54 per cent of respondents supported the crossing and 73.5 per cent backed the 20mph zone extension. Following the consultation results, work to install the new zebra crossing is scheduled to begin in the summer.

Despite the majority support, Abbots Langley Councillor Ian Campbell is concerned these plans could mean “that the school will not move to a new, purpose-built facility in 2028 as planned”.

HCC responded: “These improvements are not connected to Breakspeare School’s relocation plans. These changes will create a safer and accessible crossing point.”
