More than 90 people attended a dinner to celebrate Bushey Museum’s 30th birthday.
On Wednesday, March 6, nearly 100 visitors and members from the Friends of Bushey Museum group gathered at the Blue Check Restaurant to mark 30 years since Bushey Museum & Art Gallery’s establishment in the former Bushey Urban District Council offices.
The dinner is part of the museum’s 30th anniversary celebrations, as well as marking the return of Lucy Kemp Welch’s horse paintings. Several of these famous paintings had been loaned to the Russell-Cotes Museum in Bournemouth and then to the National Horseracing Museum. They are now back on display in Bushey’s dedicated Lucy gallery.
David Johal, proprietor of the restaurant, did not charge for the evening, meaning that more than £3,000 was raised for the museum.
Chairwoman of the Friends Rita Castle thanked David for his generosity in hosting the event.
Museum chairwoman Audrey Evans paid tribute to Carey Keates, former museum chairman and former Mayor of Hertsmere, who recently passed away.
The museum is open from 11am to 4pm from Thursday to Sunday.
