Bushey resident to run London Marathon

Published on: 9th February 2018   |   By: Jason Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

A woman who lives in Bushey will be taking part in the London Marathon in April.

Michele Lobl has challenged herself to run the marathon this year to coincide with her 60th birthday in September and will be raising money for Jami, a charity very close to her heart.

Jami are a mental health service for the Jewish and wider community, who work to bridge the gap between government funding and the required level of mental health care.

She chose to run for Jami as in October 2011, a close family member attempted to take their own life.

Michele explained: “To coincide with my 60th birthday year I’ve decided to run my first marathon. Not just as a gift to prove to myself I can do it, but to raise money, and awareness for a cause so personal to my family that often goes unnoticed in the media and wider world.”

Michele began training in August 2017 having been a novice runner for around 18 months previously, running on average 3km at a time.

On February 4, she took on the half marathon in Watford in order to push towards the big day.

Michele said: “When I get to the start line in London I will already have several hundred miles in training.”

At the time of going to print, Michele had raised over £8,000 including Gift Aid. By the big day, she hopes to have raised £10,000.

She continued: “Please could I ask you to support Jami with whatever donation you can make.

“All contributions help to fund their vital work and will be appreciated – however big or small.

“Every pound will also mean a huge amount to me and will keep me moving forwards through each mile.”
