A Kings Langley author has donated dozens of copies of her children’s book to young readers. Lauren Meehan, author of The Adventures of Benmore Dogs, gifted the books as part of her commitment to encouraging reading among young people.
Speaking to KingsNews, Lauren explained that inspiring children to develop a love of books is the main reason she writes.
“As an author, encouraging children to read is a key motivator,” she said. “I love my area and want to ensure all children have the opportunity to read.”
The Adventures of Benmore Dogs was inspired by Lauren’s three beloved dogs: Joey, Skye and Woody. The canine trio take centre stage in the story, embarking on what Lauren describes as an incredible and original adventure.
Along the way, the three friends encounter challenges, learn valuable lessons and ultimately discover the true meaning of friendship. This heartwarming tale aims to entertain young readers while promoting positive messages about kindness, loyalty and working together.
Lauren also hopes parents, carers and teachers will be able to use the book as a way to start conversations with children about friendship, perseverance and being kind to others. With its animal characters and uplifting message, the story is designed to be both fun and meaningful for families to share together.
As a children’s author, Lauren hopes the donated books will encourage more children to pick up a book and enjoy reading for pleasure. Her generous donation has been welcomed by local families, and highlights the positive impact local authors have within their small communities, both on and off the page.
