Radlett couple Stanley and Joy Katz, who were wed on September 1, 1953, celebrated their 70-year wedding anniversary this month.
The pair met aged 20 when two mutual friends brought them along on a date to act as chaperones. Joy’s friend wasn’t allowed to meet a young man alone, so asked Joy to come along. Stanley’s friend decided to bring Stanley, then a member of the RAF, to keep Joy company. Both couples ended up getting married.
Stanley and Joy lived in Stanmore for 30 years, before relocating to Radlett 38 years ago.
To celebrate their anniversary, Stanley and Joy held a family party at a restaurant in Bushey.
Just a week after their special day, the couple’s first great-grandson was born.
