A stranger who clambered into a Watford flat through an open bathroom window and took a shower before spitting in the face of a police offer has been jailed.

Petru Dirtu terrified the woman who was alone in the address in The Spinney.

She called her husband, who returned home and stood outside the shower door, St Albans Crown Court heard today/Friday, September 24.

Prosecutor Matthew Kirk said the police were called and Dirtu, 27, was arrested.

He made no comment when questioned about the burglary, which happed on July 8.

At the time Dirtu was on bail for assaulting an emergency worker.

The police had been called to an argument at his address in Edgware on 3rd June.

He spat in a woman police officer’s face when he was arrested. In the back of a police van, he also urinated.

When questioned, he said he had an “explosion” in his stomach from the beer he had drunk.

Dirtu, of Girton Avenue, London NW9, appeared for sentence for burglary and assaulting an emergency worker.

He had earlier been fined £100 by magistrates for urinating in the van.

Defending, Jessica Peck said he was of previous good character. Dirtu had spent 11 weeks in custody on remand.

Recorder Tim Clark QC told him: “Spitting in another person’s face is a disgraceful act. You should be ashamed of yourself.”

The judge said the woman alone in the flat must have been “terrified.”

He sentenced Dirtu to four months in jail. Because of the time he has served on remand, he will be released immediately.
