A father from Croxley Green is about to embark on a 26-mile charity run to raise essential funds for the Ukrainian Appeal.
Richard Phillips, 57, is taking part in the Brighton Marathon on Sunday, April 10 to raise money for the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Humanitarian Appeal.
Speaking to CroxleyNews, Richard explained: “People have been incredibly generous with their donations and sharing so far. I feel very strongly about what is happening, it is just so unjust. I wanted to do something to help those in need.”
Richard, who works as a solicitor locally, added that he has affinities to refugees, as his own grandparents were born in Ukraine and fled to Vienna, where they married in 1924 before having his father in 1935.
Richard, who has lived in the village for 24 years, said that the marathon training has gone well, and that he appreciates the lovely running routes in and around the village including Croxley Woods, Whippendell Woods, Chorleywood and Sarratt.
