Parking problems need solving say readers

Published on: 16th January 2018   |   By: Jason Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Parking is becoming an increasing problem according to BUSHEY NEWS readers who have been quick to get in touch after we ran stories on Three Valleys Way and parking outside Merry Hill School recently.

One reader, who asked to remain anonymous, said parking in Richfield Road is getting worse.

He said: “This is due to long term workers in the High Road and lack of parking off road with 34 retirement residents having limited drivers but attracting visits from carers and family support.”

Bruce Bennett said parking outside Immanuel College on Elstree Road also needs addressing.

He explained: “On the times that I have passed the school when the children are leaving the Elstree Road is chaotic and dangerous. Elstree Road is a very narrow road and not built for the amount of woman using cars to pick up their children. Has not the school got enough grounds to build a car park and where are the police to book some of these dangerous drivers?”

In last month’s BUSHEY NEWS, we featured a report on parking problems outside Merry Hill School. Police warned parents and guardians to park safely or face the consequence of their actions.

A reader contacted us to say he believes parking outside this school and in Bushey in general has become intolerable. He appealed to parents dropping children off to be considerate of other road users.

He said: “Hordes of parents everyday park up picking up their little children – one to a car usually and park on drives, across drives and blocking road entrances. No shame.  Bushey is not that big and every school is walking distance. If you can’t walk to school then something is clearly wrong.  I’ve been putting my child in my car, outside my house and parents instantly hassling for me to move.

“On another note general ignorant drivers parking on pavements is now the norm. My wife routinely has to walk in the road with my young child, because people think they have rights above us mere mortals.”

A Hertsmere Borough Council spokesman said: “We are aware of concerns raised around road safety and inconsiderate parking outside Merry Hill School, School Lane and Immanuel College, Elstree Road in Bushey

“Merry Hill School is part of our enforcement rota and regularly receives visits from our civil enforcement officers.

“Immanuel College currently has no enforceable restrictions in place, however we are actively working with the college and Hertfordshire Highways to promote measures which may prevent or alleviate some of the concerns.”
