Former Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden was not only re-elected as Conservative MP in Hertsmere, but even landed a knighthood just half an hour before polls closed this morning (Friday, July 5).
Sir Oliver Dowden MP scooped 21,451 votes, nearly 8,000 more than Labour’s Josh Tapper. Reform UK’s Darren Selkus received 6,584 votes, while the Liberal Democrats’ Emma Matanle garnered 3,710, John Humphries from the Green Party 2,267, and independent Raymond Bolster 536.
Watford local Sir Oliver MP has been the MP for Hertsmere since 2015 and additionally served as former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Secretary of State in the Cabinet Office from February 2023 until Parliament’s dissolution this year.
The turnout across Hertsmere was 65.6 per cent.
