A private all-girls school in Northwood has kicked off the celebrations to mark its 125th anniversary.
Founded in 1899 by May Rowland Brown, staff and students at St Helen’s School gathered together on Friday, January 19. in Victorian-era clothing. Everyone donated a penny to represent the actual equivalent of a day’s worth of tuition in that time.
Special commemorative pins, created by Year 6 student Elana based on the school’s daisy emblem, were also given to everyone who attended.
Miss Rowland Brown said back in 1899: “The daisy is a flower of the field that grows resiliently throughout the fields of Northwood. It is recognisable thanks to its bright yellow heart and golden hue of love.”
