Residents evacuated after fire in Garston high rise flats

Published on: 24th June 2017   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category:

Residents living in high rise flats in Garston had to be evacuated after a fire broke out at Abbey View on Saturday afternoon.

The occupant of the flat was not home at the time and no injuries were reported. Those residents who were asked to evacuate the building have now been allowed to return to their homes.

Staff from the Watford Community Housing Trust, which manages the block, were quickly on site and the occupant of the flat will be given alternative accommodation in the short term.

A statement from the WCHT read: “This incident has occurred at a time when residents are, understandably, particularly concerned about fire safety in high-rise buildings, following the tragic events at Grenfell Tower recently. We can report that Abbey View performed exactly as expected, helping to ensure that the fire did not spread to adjacent flats and that all residents were kept safe. We hope that this can provide further reassurance to everyone living in Abbey View and Munden View.”
