REMEMBER THEM: Annual walk will pay tribute for fallen servicemen

Published on: 23rd October 2019   |   By: News Desk   |   Category: Uncategorized

An annual fundraising walk will take place next month in memory of three servicemen who were killed in action in Afghanistan between 2009 and 2011.

The walk, now into its 8th year, is organised by the families of Captain Tom Sawyer of 29CDO Royal Artillery from Watford, Corporal Christopher Harrison Royal Marine from Garston and Private Tom Lake of the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment from Northwood.

They will walk from the memorial at Watford Town Hall and walk around Cassiobury Park with or without dogs in tribute to the three servicemen on November 3 at noon.

They will also remember the 75th Anniversary of D Day and those who lost their lives. We will also pay tribute to Gill Harrison, mother of Cpl Chris Harrison, who passed away in July after a short illness.

Cpl Harrison’s dad Martin said: “We really need to attract more dogs and walkers this year in an attempt to keep our fundraising target at a level compatible with previous years.

“A contribution from those taking part would be welcome as it is becoming more difficult to match our fundraising efforts in the years following our sons’ deaths due to a lowering of public consciousness of the Afghan conflict and its terrible toll.

“All proceeds will go to the Royal British Legion Poppy Fund and will help with their efforts to support all who served their nation including those who are suffering from PTSD following the Afghan conflict.”
