A turnout of 15,000 people is expected at the Christmas lights switch on in St Albans this year. The event on Sunday November 26 will begin at 12pm and will take place in three different locations within the city including; Alban Arena, The Clock Tower and Vintry Gardens. The switch on will start at 5pm and the street party will come to a close at 6pm. Phil Gallagher, TV star in Mister Maker, will be one of many celebrities performing at the Alban Arena pantomime, which will lead the countdown on the main stage. EastEnders actor, Karl Howman and comedian, Bob Golding will also join him in the spotlight – amongst many other actors from the panto Aladdin. The Christmas market will involve 70 stalls, which will offer a wide range of food and drinks, including artesian cheeses and handmade chocolates. On the day, a selection of attractions will be open to the public such as, a funfair, free activities for young people and a live music stage which will host a number of local performers. 36 trees have been decorated on St Peter’s Street with brand new lights, which were funded by the local businesses. Helen Burridge, manager of St Albans Business Improvement District (BID) said: “The new lights are fantastic decorations which are going to attract even more visitors to the City Centre over the Christmas period and for years to come. “Look out for a surprise later in December… the lights are not all that they seem.” For more details, please visit: www.enjoystalbans.com.
