YUMMY BROWNIES: Children in Chorleywood enjoy heavenly bake-off during Lent

Published on: 12th March 2021   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

Children from across the parish of Christ Church, Chorleywood needed no special permission from on high to bake chocolate brownies during Lent, because the vicar is a keen cook.

Rev David Hall explained that as a foodie himself, he was delighted that dozens of children took part in the Kids’ Bake-Off via Zoom on Sunday, March 7.

They were helped by children’s ministers Brianna Ricciardo and Alistair Bassett, who demonstrated what Rev Hall described as “world-class” baking skills.

Rev Hall admitted that even during Lent, which is traditionally a period of fasting, he had sometimes used lockdown as an excuse to treat himself and was therefore “an easy pushover” for the children’s cooking session.

“These on-camera initiatives bind everyone together, especially if you put enough treacle in the recipe,” he joked.

He added that he hopes government guidelines will allow the church to organise many more activities for young people this summer.

Christ Church is planning a range of services (streamed and outdoors in good weather) for the Easter weekend.

International evangelist (and Chorleywood resident) John will be speaking at two streamed services (one with a mass virtual choir, with singers from the parish) on Easter Sunday; and at 4pm on the same day, a variety of performers will stream an Easter tea concert, aimed at families, who are encouraged to enjoy afternoon tea at home while watching the event.
