YOUNG ARTIST: Talented Bushey pupil wins seasonal card competition

A student from a school in Bushey was crowned one of the overall winners in this year’s Mayor of Hertsmere’s annual seasonal card competition.

Seven-year-old Iris Archard, from Bushey Manor School won with is beautiful design of a robin evokes the wonderful part nature plays at this time of year. 

He was one of four winners overall who a certificate, gift voucher, a large poster version of their design and a pack of their own cards to give to friends and family.

The youngsters were presented with their prizes by the Mayor of Hertsmere, Councillor Rabbi Alan Plancey, at a ceremony at the Civic Offices last month.

Mayor Cllr Plancey said: “The chance to view and judge the excellent artwork by Hertsmere’s schoolchildren is one of the most satisfying duties that I get to perform as Mayor.

“The standard of entries is always high, and the designs have included a wide variety of themes this year from all across the world – including our very own Chinese dragon to wish everyone not only a Happy Christmas but also a Happy New Year!

“We’ve been running the seasonal card competition for 13 years now, and every year we’re really impressed with the standard of the entries we receive from schools across the borough.

“It was a difficult task to pick this year’s winners, but these four cards really caught my eye. There was something bright and cheerful about each one.

“I want to thank everyone who took part and submitted entries. We really appreciate the support this competition receives from schools and the local community each year. This is a wonderful way to involve children in the borough in helping to spread a message of seasonal goodwill and cheer.”
