Boxing champion and former Meriden resident Anthony Joshua OBE returned to his old stomping ground for a community services day.

The event was organised by local charity You Matter, which offers help, support and guidance to vulnerable people. The charity was supported by Watford Borough Council (WBC), Meriden Residents’ Association and Clean Herts Community.

More than 1,000 people attended the event, which took place in Meriden Park on Sunday, June 9.

Special guest Anthony even took part in the tug of war and helped his side claim the victory.

The event featured fairground rides, a bouncy castle, go karts, outdoor games, live music from Duke Box, and motivational speakers. There were also more than 20 stall holders promoting services such as adult learning, foodbanks, and childcare.

Food was provided by Astero’s Kitchen. The food and entertainment were free thanks to funds from You Matter and grants from WBC.

Speaking to GARSTONnews, You Matter founder Andre Best said: “The first thing AJ said to me was ‘Wow! This is amazing.’

“The whole community was out – every age was represented. It gave people the boost they needed.”
