Five young gymnasts who took part in You Matter’s free Performing Arts Week during October half term have been offered scholarships at the Katie Read Dance Company.
The choreographers, dancers, singers and actors who led the Performing Arts Week, which took place at the Meriden Community Centre in Garston, were bowled over by the energy and enthusiasm of the 40 young attendees.
This year’s Performing Arts Week ran from October 23 to 27 and was open to children aged eight to 14 years from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds. With an action-packed schedule, children were offered the chance to try out a huge range of performing arts, including juggling, stilt walking and poi spinning.
According to the charity’s founder Andre Best, the five children chosen to receive the scholarships would have struggled to continue their exploration of the performing arts without financial help.
Watford Borough Council donated 50 per cent of the costs for the week, while Astero’s Kitchen provided the children with a healthy hot meal, and ASDA and Wenzel’s provided snacks.
