Plans have now been submitted for 93 new homes on land off Bedmond Road in Abbots Langley, prompting strong objections from residents and a local councillor.
The outline application, submitted to Three Rivers District Council (TRDC), includes proposals for access, parking, amenity space, and landscaping. Residents raised concerns over the potential impact on neighbouring properties, loss of privacy, increased traffic, and suitability for emergency vehicles.
Councillor Ian Campbell told ABBOTSnews: “I am concerned by this planning application, which will see our village lose local fields to housing development and lead to an increase in traffic on Bedmond Road and Tibbs Hill Road.”
Criticising the council’s wider planning approach, cllr Campbell shared the failure to adopt a Local Plan has allowed developers to secure permission, warning further housing proposals could follow. This includes a potential development of 1,125 homes north of Abbots Road, recommended by council officers for inclusion in the Local Plan.
He added: “I will be opposing this application as it is my view that Abbots Langley should stay a village and that our local green spaces and rural character are worth protecting.”
TRDC responded: “All those matters must and will be assessed as part of the planning application.”
