WOOLY WONDERS: Yarn Bomb’s Remembrance knits raise money for war charities

Published on: 21st November 2021   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

Yarn Bomb Hemel Hempstead’s displays around town for Remembrance Weekend have wowed residents with dozens post boxes and trees coated in spectacularly-stitched tributes.

The group of Hemel-based knitters, first set up three years to raise money for the poppy appeal, have gone from strength to strength.

Displays for World Book Day, Halloween and the Boxmoor Scarecrow Festival have all been made, with some now permanent fixtures.

This year, the team of crocheters have been raising money for three charities that all support people involved in conflict: the Royal British Legion, Forgotten Veterans UK and Murphy’s Army (who pay tribute to all animals who die in war).

Post box toppers celebrating, and commemorating heroes of war have been found all around town as well as a fantastic display of a tree covered in poppies made specially for Boxmoor’s war memorial.

Donations can still be made by scanning the QR codes on the post box toppers if you see them whilst out and about.
