Watford’s most infamous width restriction could be changed again.
The Woodmere Avenue width restrictions have propelled the street into cult fame after local resident Tim Vigor’s Ring doorbell camera recorded a decade of disastrous, and often hilarious, incidents of cars failing to squeeze through an overly narrow set of bollards.
One video posted on the MyLocalNews Youtube page showing an ambitious van trying its luck and getting ripped apart has more than 396,000 views.
A post on X made by the aptly named World Bollard Association posted a compilation of incidents on November 19, saying “Back by popular demand…turn your volume up and enjoy the greatest bollard performance in history”.
Hertfordshire County Council widened the restrictions in August of last year but returned to consult residents again on further changes.
They suggested adding cameras and/or replacing the width restriction with a five-tonne weight restriction.
Resident Tim has said the original changes have mostly successful, with only “a couple of instances” since.
The consultation will close on December 10: https://www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/about-the-council/consultations/transport-and-highways/traffic-restrictions-along-woodmere-avenue..aspx
