‘WONDERFUL’: Shenley Village Fete a success despite drizzle and drop-outs

Published on: 18th July 2024   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Despite intermittent showers and a last-minute drop-out, the Shenley Village Fete on Sunday, July 7, was a resounding success.

A string of gazebos at Harris Lane Playing Field provided ample cover for the Phoenix Concert Band and the Borehamwood Rock Choir, whose performances were enjoyed by hundreds of listeners sheltering under umbrellas.

Meanwhile, local boot camp CIRC-HIIT stepped in with a midday performance when the organisers of the central arena were let down at the last minute.

Local pets were undeterred by spells of rain as they competed in the dog displays, while youngsters enjoyed an exciting bungee jump.

After the first performance was cut short due to rain, the Vander Wheel of Death completed a full 20-minute performance to the crowd’s delight at the end of the day.

Chairman Guy Beaton and treasurer Nicky Beaton said: “The Fete couldn’t have happened without the wonderful committee, volunteers and sponsors. The day went extremely well even if it was quite wet!”
