A GP practice in Radlett has warned residents that social media posts recently made about a member of staff were “hurtful and detrimental” and potentially even “tantamount to bullying”.
In a newsletter sent to subscribers, Red House Surgery asked patients to directly address the practice through an official complaints procedure, rather than sharing concerns about particular individuals on public forums.
On December 23, a complaint about a member of staff at Red House Surgery posted on Facebook started a thread that accrued 126 comments. Many of the comments criticised both the conduct and character of a named medical professional, although the individual’s name was later removed.
Red House Surgery’s newsletter to patients, sent on January 10, reads: “Repeated posts and comments could be seen as tantamount to bullying and some of the comments could be considered as defamation of character.
“The member of staff named in the posts has the full support of all the partners at the surgery and we have no concerns about their clinical competence or how they have managed their patients.”
Rather than taking to social media, patients are invited to leave feedback confidentially at www.theredhousegroup.com/about-us/practice-policies/patient-rights/complaints/ or liaise with the Patients Participation Group by sending an email to redhousepatientsgroup@gmail.com
