Some fundraisers run a marathon, others jump out of a plane, but for The Grove Academy’s site manager, his choice of fundraising challenge is a little more unique.
Jay, who has worked as the Garston school’s site manager for over a year, has committed to wearing shorts all year round to raise money for the parent teacher association (PTA).
Whatever the weather, Jay has been out and about in his shorts! This challenge began in October last year and Jay has now spoken to GARSTONnews to spread the word about his wonderfully wacky challenge.
He said: “I am on the front gate in the mornings, so I get to see the parents and children every day.
“I know I have a different role here at the school; I am not a teacher, so I thought I would do something to help, and this is my way of doing it.”
Jay has recently surpassed his £500 fundraising goal and is now upping his target to £1,000.
All of the money raised will go to pupils at the school.
Principal Sarah Hennigan told GARSTONnews: “In support of the PTA, Mr Barter has committed to wearing shorts all year round to raise further funds! He has so far worn them through snow, rain and hail, all with the support from our pupils and parents. Jay’s efforts are much appreciated, and we hope that the warmer weather returns soon!”
