A lucky resident from Stanmore is celebrating after winning thousands of pounds on a community lottery.

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, won £2,000 in the Harrow Wins community lottery held in July.

Harrow Wins raises money for good causes in in the local area including Stanmore. All good causes supported by the lottery will benefit Harrow and its residents.

While there is no jackpot winner yet, the weekly draw has had 226 players sign-up, raising just over £3,000 for local causes

Tickets for the lottery cost £1 per week with each ticket having a one in 50 chance of winning a prize each week, with a top prize of £25,000.

The winner from Stanmore said: “I’m so excited to have won £2,000, and can’t wait to spend it with my partner.

A community lottery is much more interesting than the national lottery and there is probably a better chance of winning, I have already had two small previous wins. Why not have a bit of fun and support the local community at the same time.”

Councillor Sue Anderson, portfolio holder for community engagement and accessibility, said: “Congratulations to our winner.

“I’d like to thank everyone who is taking part in our community lottery. It isn’t just about winning money, it’s also about fundraising for local groups too – be it charities, scouts or sports groups.

“If you’re a local group looking for a no-cost fundraising opportunity, sign up now. The more organisations that come on board, the more people will take part with better results for everyone.”
