Sun shining, packed crowds, and the odd wheelbarrow can only mean one thing in the village as the Pinner Rotary St George’s Day celebrations returned with a bang.
On Sunday, April 27, large numbers of the community came to Pinner High Street to take part in the annual event.
The Mayor of Harrow councillor Salim Chowdhury, who opened the event, witnessed a large contingent of Harrow Scouts renew their promise at the top of the High Street.
Capital Connection entertained the crowd with their acapella performance and David Wilde’s Punch and Judy show captivated onlookers.
Making their debut at the event, RAZORZ proved to be a very popular addition to the line-up, with firm-favourite and traditional Merrydowners Morris performing morris dancing.
Another new feature was a parade of colourful dragon and St George flags by pupils from Pinner Wood School, led by assistant headteacher Nathan Mainwaring.
Wheelbarrows flooded the streets during a parade down the High Street, with the Wheelbarrow Race attracting a record 20 competitors
The award for the Best Dressed team, presented by Sean White of The Queen’s Head, went to Nemo and Jen’s Space Oddities.
The High Street was busy all afternoon with the public enjoying the wide range of food offerings and community and charity stalls.
Thanks to the generosity of the public, the bucket collection raised more than £1,000 and the overall total raised from the event is expected to be over £3,000 for charities supported by Pinner Rotary, including My Yard and Help Change Lives.
Pinner Rotary paid particular thanks to Radio Harrow who provided the PA system for the event, event sponsors Gibbs Gillespie and Corporate Members of Pinner Rotary, The Queen’s Head and YAKO Restaurant and Bar for their additional support.
Pinner Rotary have already announced the date of next year’s celebrations on Sunday, April 19, 2026.
Their next event is the Pinner Rotary Village Show on Sunday, September 6.
