After the success of A Level results day, St Columba’s College in St Albans has shared more academic success with the announcement of this year’s GCSE results.

A spokesperson for the school said: “Building on the success of our A Level results (which saw St Columba’s College last week achieve 10.7 per cent A* grades, 72.7 per cent A*-B grades, 91.3 per cent A*-C grades and 100 per cent A*-E grades), we are delighted to announce another set of outstanding GCSE results at St Columba’s College. Fifty-eight per cent of all results were rated at the top grades of 9-7. Over the last 10 years, we have seen the proportion of these top grades rise by a stunning 47 per cemt. This is in no small measure due to the hard work, fortitude and positive attitude shown by our determined students together with the innovation and commitment to excellence exemplified by our dedicated teaching staff.

“This cohort has been the first to benefit from a hybrid model of learning during their GCSE course, where traditional teaching methods have been bolstered by digital devices. Two-thirds of the year group achieved between seven and twelve grades of 9-6 and 38 per cent of students achieved at least one grade 9. The accolade of the highest number of maximum grades was shared jointly by George, with nine grade 9s and two grade 8s, and William, who achieved nine grade 9s and one grade 7. Further stellar performances came from Finley, with eight grade 9s and four grade 8s, and Tommy, with eight grade 9s, one grade 8 and one grade 7. We are incredibly proud of all our GCSE students and look forward to witnessing their future successes as many of them continue their studies in our Sixth Form.”

Headmaster Karl Guest said: “Our students and teachers have worked meticulously and with such dedication to achieve another outstanding set of results and I am so very proud of what they have achieved. We pride ourselves on our holistic approach to education and that this begins with academic excellence. St Columba’s College continues to prove itself as a high quality place of learning, where our young people develop, grow and learn in an environment that recognises them as individuals and encourages them to flourish.”
