A member of Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club has secured yet another fantastic achievement after taking the top spot in a marathon swim.
On Sunday, August 11, Hilary Coulson took part in the 2024 Thames Marathon – a 13km swim split into four sections – between Henley-on-Thames and Marlow. The swimmer was required to exit the water at three locks – Hambleden, Hurley and Temple – where she quickly energised with a snack and drink before continuing the race.
A spokesperson for the swimming club posted on social media: “Hilary, one of our Master Squad swimmers, finished in an amazing 1st place of 36 swimmers in her age group, two minutes faster than last year and in a time of three hours and 40 minutes. Well done, Hilary!”
Just two weeks earlier, Hilary travelled with her son and fellow Masters swimmer Shane to Rother Valley, where they both took part in the Swim England Open Water National Championship. Both swimming 3km, Shane secured gold and a new personal best, and Hilary just missed out on bronze by six seconds despite also securing a personal best.
