A coffee historian from Berkhamsted has appeared on a popular BBC podcast alongside comedian Sophie Duker.

Jonathan Morris appeared on history podcast You’re Dead to Me to discuss the origins of coffee.

The episode, which is hosted by Greg Jenner and was released on Saturday, March 8, takes a light-hearted look at the emergence of coffee culture.

Jonathan is director of Research Culture and Environment at the University of Hertfordshire, where he is also a research professor in Modern History.

He was joined by comedian Sophie Duker, who has appeared on hit TV shows such as Taskmaster, Celebrity Mastermind, and Mock of the Week.

Jonathan, who was previously a tea drinker, discovered an interest in coffee while completing a PhD in Italian History.

He said: “I went from being a historian of Italy with an interest in coffee to a historian of coffee with an interest in Italy.”

He also launched the podcast A History of Coffee during lockdown.
