WEALDSTONE WINNERS: Dennon Lewis steals the show at football club’s end of season awards

While the end of Wealdstone FC’s season was, like all national league teams’, the most lacklustre finish to date, the club managed to raise some excitement among fans with their end of season awards.

The Stones, who were top of the league when the season was scrapped last month, still went ahead with their 2019/2020 end of season awards – albeit virtually.

Rising-star winger Dennon Lewis, 23, unsurprisingly took home both the Jock Law Trophy Player of the Year and Young Stones Player of the Year awards, having scored 13 goals and provided 10 assists in 39 appearances. He also received the Goal of the Season Award for his clinical finish against Welling United – 42 per cent of fans voted for him.

Veteran striker Ross Lafayette took home the Golden Boot award after netting 16 goals from 35 appearances in all competitions. The manager commended him for his leadership and positive attitude.

Full-back Michee Efete was awarded the Chairman’s Award by Rory Fitzgerald after an impressive debut season for the Stones.

The Supporter of the Year Award, which has been renamed the Mark Barton Trophy in honour of the respected fan and volunteer who passed away in February, was awarded to Dave Reader. Dave organised all the coach travel for Stones fans on away fixtures throughout the season.

The President’s Award went to joint winners Peter Edwards, and Mark Hyde and The Programme Team. Peter received the award for his decade-long maintenance work at The Vale while Mark and his team sponsor the costs of printing the programmes every year.
