Wealdstone FC take on QPR legends this weekend

Published on: 9th July 2019   |   By: News Desk   |   Category: Wealdstone F.C

Players from Wealdstone’s 2014 Ryman Premier Division title winning side take on a team of QPR legends at Wealdstone FC’s Grosvenor Vale home on Sunday, July 14.

The game is in recognition of two great servants of the club, former first team manager Gordon Bartlett and his assistant Leo Morris.

Gordon who was appointed in 1995 was in charge of the club for 22 years before being replaced in August 2017.

During his time at the club Gordon took Wealdstone FC from Ryman League Division 3 to the 8th place in the National League South – at the time their highest finish since 1988.

During Gordon’s reign, the club won two league titles, one play-off final, reached the FA Cup first round proper twice and reached the semi-finals of the FA Trophy whilst developing a number of players who went on to play in the Football League.

Gordon’s assistant manager, Leo Morris has been an equally loyal servant to the club and is still involved at the club nearly 25 years after joining.

The QPR team is expected to include a number of well known names including Marc Bircham, Martin Rowlands, Gareth Ainsworth, Terrell Forbes, Danny Shittu, Kevin Gallen, Steve Gallen, Marcus Bean, Tommy Smith, Jamie Cureton, Dennis Oli and Bradley Simmonds.

Kick-off is 2pm with all proceeds being spit between The QPR Trust and The Wealdstone FC Community Foundation.

Admission is only £5 for adults, £2 for concessions and U18’s and free for U14’s.
