A High Street entertainment programme was launched in Watford on Friday, June 20 by high street champion, Mary Portas, and Mayor Dorothy Thornhill in the town’s renovated Parade. The launch, called Big Events, is a year long programme of mainly free events is the most ambitious arts programme ever launched in Watford. It will feature music, dance, theatre, sport, fashion, outdoor films animation and ice skating. Mary said: “Being Watford born and bred, I am delighted to be opening Watford’s Big Events. Our High Streets are our heartbeats, they form one of the most important social fabric of our community and the way we live so this will be really brilliant for the town. Big Events is a great way to showcase the talent in the area and I am so proud to be involved.” The Launch coincides with the fourth Imagine festival in the town and Mayor Thornhill added Watford “will deliver a fantastic programme of events, using The Parade in the way that it was designed.
