Watford streets treated to a thorough clean-up by council and partners

The annual ‘Deep Clean’ project targets areas that would usually be difficult to clean due to obstacles, such as large numbers of parked cars. Once again Watford Borough Council, its partner Veolia, Hertfordshire County Council highways contractor Ringway and Watford Borough Council’s highways and civil engineering contractor Murrill Construction worked together to power-wash pavements and street surfaces, repaint road markings, repair or replace street name plates, empty gullies, trim hedges, collect leaves and much more. Hertfordshire County Councillors Nigel Bell (Holywell), Asif Khan (Callowland), Stephen Giles-Medhurst (Central) and Mark Watkin (Nascot & Park) provided additional funding for the project. Cllr Peter Taylor, whose portfolio includes overseeing Watford’s waste and recycling services, said: “It is so important that we keep Watford’s roads and pavements as clean as possible. Working with Veolia and our other partners, these deep cleans mean that we can go the extra mile to make streets immaculate. We’re proud of Watford and want our residential roads to reflect this. I’m grateful to all the street cleaners who have helped with these deep cleans and who work so hard – week-in and week-out.” Matthew Crane, Senior Contract Manager at Veolia Watford, said: “Our staff take great pride in keeping Watford clean on a daily basis. However, some areas can be difficult to clean due to the amount of parked vehicles – especially during the seasonal heavy leaf fall. This is why these deep cleans are such a good initiative. During these works we rely on residents helping us gain access to all parts of their streets and once again they did a great job by keeping their vehicles off the roads we were working on. We would like to thank everyone for their help and cooperation during these works.”
