On Monday (September 11), Richard Harrington MP met with Sir Peter Hendy, Chairman of Network Rail, to discuss improving Watford’s transport links, in particular the redevelopment of Watford Junction Station. The Watford MP was re-elected in June this year and one of his key pledges was to move forward with the redevelopment of Watford Junction station. The Watford MP said: “I really believe that good transport links are key to Watford’s success. We all agree that Watford Junction Station is not fit for purpose and so in my meeting with Sir Peter Hendy I made it clear that redeveloping the station needs to be a priority. This has been talked about for too long, Watford residents want to see this project move forward. I’m pleased to confirm that the Chairman is committed to the project and very supportive of plans to redevelop our station. We have agreed that Network Rail will work closely with local stakeholders to make sure we break ground soon. I’m delighted that Watford now has the support of the Chairman of Network Rail and I look forward to seeing this through. I was also pleased to have the chance to discuss the Metropolitan Line Extension with the Chairman and we have arranged further meetings to discuss my idea of Network Rail handing over the track to TfL to generate more funding.”
