Watford Health Campus has received planning approval to transform West Watford into an attractive and vibrant new community. Watford Borough Council’s Development Control Committee approved the application which was submitted by Watford’s Health Campus LLP which hopes to improve deliver a new business zone with additional employment opportunities. Samantha Jones, Chief Executive said: “We are pleased with this decision. We are fully committed to the Watford Health Campus scheme which will, over time, help facilitate a major upgrade of WatfordHospital. This is great news for our patients, local people and staff.” Over the next 10 to 15 years the plan is to regenerate the existing Watford Hospital and provide opportunities for its extension. There is also a plan for 681 new homes with 35 per cent of which being affordable. There will be plans for new parks and play spaces, a new public square of facilities, new cycle paths and footpaths; a riverside wildlife area will also help to improve the quality of green space. The land for the expansion of school places at Laurance Haines primary school and all contaminated and derelict land will be cleaned up. Commenting on the decision, Elected Mayor of Watford, Dorothy Thornhill said: “After months of planning we now have the green light to start making things happen and bring the Health Campus vision to life. “The business zone is great news for Watford’s economy. Businesses are already signing up – confirmation that business wants to be here and that the Health Campus is providing what they need.”
