Two men from Chorleywood and two friends played took part in the Longest Day Golf Challenge at The Grove recently, raising £3,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Henry Lucas, Chris Owen, Paul Coburn and Andrew Bowler, who have known each other for 20 years, took part in the ultimate golf challenge playing 72 holes in just one day. “It was a very long but absolutely brilliant day”, Henry recalled, “We had friends and family walking parts of the course with us, which really helped keep our morale high. It was physically and mentally challenging and we all felt a huge amount of satisfaction when we finished.” Having wanted to do a charity event for some time, the group of friends jumped at the chance to sign up when they heard about the Longest Day Golf Challenge. “We’ve all been keen golfers for many years and thought it was time to put that enjoyment of the game to good use. We’ve all seen the impact that cancer can have on friends and loved ones, so it’s a charity that’s very close to our hearts”, Paul explained. They had originally set their target at £2,500, but after being overwhelmed with support from family and friends, they are set to reach over £3,000. The group enjoyed the experience so much that they’ve already got plans for the future, Henry says: “We’ve now got a bit of a sponsorship bug! We’re certainly looking to do the Longest Day Golf Challenge again next year, but we’re also planning to do the Three Peaks Challenge.” Laura Bazzoni, Hertfordshire Fundraising Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said, “Congratulations to Henry, Chris, Paul and Andrew for their fantastic fundraising efforts – and physical endurance! Money raised from events like this helps us to ensure no one in Watford faces cancer alone, so huge thanks to the team and everyone who supported them.” To find out more about the Longest Day Golf Challenge, or other ways to support Macmillan, visit macmillan.org.uk or call our Fundraising Support Centre on 0300 1000 200.
