Published on: 21st February 2018   |   By: Jason Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Cassiobury parkrun celebrates its third anniversary this Saturday and Watford Borough Council would like to congratulate all the runners and volunteers who have made it such a success.

The free 5km run takes place every Saturday from 9am, with the briefing for first-time participants taking place at 8.50am.

It was launched with £3,000 of funding from the council to help the people of Watford stay fit, active and healthy. Though the timed run usually begins from the Rickmansworth Road entrance to Cassiobury Park, participants will complete the course in reverse, starting from outside The Cha Café, on Saturday.

The parkrun has gone from strength to strength. At the first Cassiobury parkrun, there were 157 finishers – at its first anniversary, there were 349 finishers, and at its second anniversary, a whopping 433 people finished the course.

Participants are asked to register in advance of the parkrun they take part in. You can now sign up to one of the timed Cassiobury parkruns yourself, and learn more about Saturday’s anniversary event, at parkrun.org.uk/cassiobury

Cllr Karen Collett, cabinet member for community, said: “Keeping fit helps you live longer and stay healthier and happier. We are delighted to have helped launch Cassiobury parkrun, and to have brought the joy of exercise into so many people’s lives. Hundreds of people take part every week – a great success for Watford.”

This Saturday’s anniversary parkrun will have the theme of spots, so please feel free to come in fancy dress. What’s more, there are a series of prizes to be won in the lead up to Saturday’s anniversary parkrun.
