St Paul’s Church in Langleybury has announced its new vicar as the Reverend David Scourfield, who hopes to expand the church’s role in the community.
The new vicar was officially welcomed to the church on Tuesday, May 20, at a “wonderful” service.
Abbots News caught up with Father David to learn about his story up until now.
He said: “I joined to serve the church, parish, and local community as vicar. Although I am spending time getting to know the local area and people, I am not new to Watford, having served as curate with All Saints, Leavesden, for 18 months and having lived in North Watford for nearly 30 years.”
Fr David came to ordained ministry later in life, having worked in local government for over 30 years as a chief officer.
He said: “One of the joys of my work has always been to meet, work with and help a variety of different people. I am very much a ‘people person’ and like nothing more than to spend some time talking to people about their life and my life as a very down-to-earth church minister!
“I am especially excited to be working with St Paul’s Primary School, and developing the relationship with staff, parents and especially children.”
Over the next few months, Fr David hopes to open the church on a regular basis so people can “pop in to take some time out from the rush of daily life and enjoy the calm, peace and beauty of this building”.
He added: “Please do come in if you are passing.”
