Published on: 8th April 2021   |   By: Tim Green   |   Category: Uncategorized

A woman from Amersham and her assistance dog were nominated for a prestigious national award.

Ruth Spurr suffers from Ehlers Danlos Syndrome which causes multisystemic problems throughout her body.

Ruth and her faithful friend were named as finalists at the Animal Star Awards which recognises animals for the extraordinary things they do.

Ruth and Willow were nominated in the Best Pet Blogger/Blog category.

Ruth’s blog Walking With Willow tells her followers how her five-year-old Tibetan Terrier helps with daily tasks including the washing, opening and closing doors and knows what to do when Ruth collapses and how to get helps.

The blog currently has more than 800 followers.

Although they didn’t win, Ruth said the pair were grateful just to be nominated. Posting a video to her page after the event, she said she was grateful for all the support.

Ruth said: “We didn’t win the category which is absolutely fine because there was so many deserving people. I just love what we do, I love Willow and that’s the main thing. As long as you enjoy what you’re doing that’s the most important thing.

“We haven’t got hundreds of thousands of followers. We’ve got a little family of Willow followers and that’s what I love. You guys. Hopefully you enjoy our content and posts and videos and that’s what matters.”

Ruth and Willow are clients of Assistance in Disability Dog A.I.D.
