A loyal volunteer from Abbots Langley has been presented with a special Girlguiding long service badge to celebrate 40 years of volunteering.
Carol Paley, who first joined Girlguiding in 1972 as a Brownie, said she enjoyed helping girls with their activities but never thought about becoming a leader.
Carol was a Brownie, Guide and young leader, and became an assistant leader in 1984. Apart from a term she took off to have own daughter, she has been involved as a Brownie leader ever since.
The love for Girlguiding has stayed within the family, as Carol said she was “very proud” that her daughter is now also a young leader.
Carol said: “My favourite times have been taking girls away on sleepovers, cooking outdoors or doing scavenger hunts.
“I have seen quite a few changes over my 40 years – the uniforms have changed a few times! I’ve had lots of fun, support and opportunities.
“It is rewarding to help girls achieve things they didn’t think they could, and to see the enjoyment on their faces when they do.”
