Manager relieved as major catastrophe is averted

Published on: 27th July 2018   |   By: Tim Green   |   Category: Uncategorized

The manager of a children’s activity centre in Bushey has said she is relieved there was not a major fire after intruders broke into the site and set 20 log seats on fire.

Rachel Collins is children’s services manager at The Lincolnsfield Centre and said staff only found out the news after the incident had been dealt with.

It happened late in the evening of July 7 and emergency services had to enter without anyone’s knowledge to deal with the fire at the edge of a four acre woodland bordered by Bushey Hall Golf Club, Bushey Mill Lane and Purcell School of Music.

She said: “The irresponsibleness of this act of whoever thought it was a good or fun idea cannot be expressed in words especially given the extreme hot, dry climate of the moment. Whoever it was would have gained access by pushing down and climbing in over the fence. Total disbelief was in everybody’s mind who are connected to the Lincolnsfields Centre when they found out the news. “

Rachel said that she and all her staff want to thank whoever tipped off the emergency services .

She added: “What could have been a catastrophic disaster to not only the woodland but the surrounding properties was fortunately prevented.”
