Hertsmere officers took part in a multi-agency event in September, with the aim of providing crucial personal safety education and advice to young people.

The Crucial Crew project was delivered to over 800 Year 6 children from 22 primary schools across the borough, with multiple events run by Child Safety Media and hosted at Hertsmere Borough Council’s Civic Offices.

The project featured several interactive workshops hosted by Hertfordshire Police, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, SAHWR Specialist Domestic Abuse Services, school nurses and the East of England Ambulance Service.

Workshops took place over eight days, allowing pupils to learn valuable skills from professionals through practical demonstrations and discussions on real-life situations.

Some of the topics included personal safety, staying safe online, knife crime, fire safety, healthy relationships and health and wellbeing, among others.

Officers from the Hertsmere Neighbourhood Policing Team and the Constabulary’s Child Criminal Exploitation Team assisted with the programme delivery.

Chief Superintendent Luke Mooney attended a special VIP event on the last day of the scheme, alongside Hertsmere Neighbourhood Inspector Rachel Robertson and other guests from surrounding agencies.

Speaking to RADLETTnews, he said: “We’re very fortunate to have this programme operating in Hertfordshire for the benefit of local children.

“The project provides young people with the opportunity to learn important safety skills in an engaging way, and we’re pleased to have supported with the delivery.”

Further workshops are expected to be announced in the future.
