HEARTFELT APPEAL: Help Watford hospital secure new hi-tech scanner to change patients’ lives

Published on: 1st March 2022   |   By: Jenny Hersh   |   Category: Uncategorized

Raise, a hospital charity that supports West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust (WHHT), has launched the ‘Imagine This…’ appeal in order to raise funds for a new scanner at Watford General Hospital.

The scanner would enable patients in west Hertfordshire and beyond to have access to cutting edge pinhole surgery, provided in a new surgical suite.

Officially called ‘Interventional Radiology’, there are multiple benefits to the minimally-invasive, image-guided pinhole surgery, meaning clinical teams will be able to treat more patients than they currently can, including pregnant women and children.

The new Interventional Radiology Suite will be transformative and mean that hundreds more patients will be treated more locally to their homes.

Sofia Sheikh, charity director of Rise, commented: “It’s wonderful to think that we can harness human kindness to move to this fabulous new way of treating patients, including children who need chemotherapy and dangerously ill patients.

“We are proud to support WHHT in its quest to provide leading edge care for local people.”

The £695,000 appeal has got off to a great start already, with a £100,000 pledge from The League of Friends of Watford Hospital.
