Members from the Abbots in Transition took part in a litter pick on February 15 despite the pressures of Storm Dennis threatening to call it off.
Twelve volunteers from the group set to work with the litter picks and bags provided, and among the haul of litter collected, there were 39 vodka bottles and 47 NOS cannisters.
The group aim to do at least four litter picks a year but are looking to increase that number all the time, with the next one being in March.
Belinda Phipps, a member of Abbots in Transition, said: “The fact we’ve gone out in this weather shows how important doing things like this is to us, and it’s a very productive thing to do.
“Abbots in Transition has a core group of members, and we tend to do a lot for the community as well as litter picks. We found a lot of very odd things along the way like the vast amount of vodka bottles, but most things are plastic.”
As wind speeds grew too great for safe collecting, the group retired to a local café for a well-earned cup of coffee.
Abbots Langley Parish Council provided members with the refreshments after the litter pick.
Group leader, Mary Chabrel, said: “We litter pick regularly and newcomers are always welcome.”
