A petition to prevent a McDonald’s branch coming to a residential development in Ruislip is gathering momentum.
McDonald’s have applied to Hillingdon Council for a proposed 24-hour restaurant at South Ruislip’s Arla Place.
The Arla Place development was always intended to be a mixed-use estate, including a cinema, Asda superstore, and two restaurants.
However, concerned residents of Arla Place have opposed the McDonald’s application.
The petition, which has collected more than 900 signatures, states: “The constant whine of moped scooters will disrupt the peaceful environment, making it difficult for families with young children or elderly individuals to get a good night’s sleep.
“Arla Place is a pedestrian neighbourhood with measures to prevent cars using it as a ‘rat run’, though moped scooter drivers could drive around these while picking up orders.”
A McDonald’s spokesperson said: “Whilst we’re in the early stages of the application process, we’re excited by the prospect of opening a new restaurant in Ruislip, which would create 120 full- and part-time jobs for the community. We take our responsibility as a neighbour seriously and have designed the scheme to minimise the impact on people living nearby.”
Hillingdon Council has been contacted for comment.
