UMBRELLIEVABLE: Armed police rush to Watford after man’s umbrella gets mistaken for sword

Armed police rushed to Bushey Mill Lane this morning (January 9) after receiving a call about a man carrying a large sword – in reality, the man was carrying an umbrella. 

Officers from Watford received the information from a worried caller who said they saw a man walking down the road with a large sword. 

The male was located near the industrial estate and was seen to enter a premises just off of Greycaine Road.

Three-armed response units from the BCH APU contained the area and entered the premises.

A search of the male was conducted by armed officers.

The object described as a sword was in fact an umbrella with a sword style handle. 

The umbrella was stored in a sheaf like pouch.

The man was given words of advice in regards to the item.
