Two men have been arrested following the alleged theft of a digger from Berkhamsted.
Police received intelligence at around 10.45pm on December 3 that the JCB digger was about to be stolen from near the golf course, in The Common.
Officers attended and discovered a 7.5 tonne lorry in a nearby car park, which was allegedly being used to steal the machine.
One man ran off before being detained and arrested, along with a second man.
Meanwhile, the lorry was driven away, almost colliding with the police vehicle in the process, and was found abandoned a short while later.
A 22-year-old man from Hemel Hempstead was arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle and a 42-year-old man from Bovingdon was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit theft.
The digger was recovered, undamaged and enquiries are continuing.
