Hertfordshire’s new Police and Crime Commissioner Jonathan Ash-Edwards has called on society to “redouble efforts” to tackle male violence against women and girls.

The PCC has spoken following the killing of three women in Bushey this week.

He described it as a “truly terrible incident for Hertfordshire”, but thanked the officers involved for their professionalism and the public for their co-operation.

Jonathan Ash-Edwards, Police & Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire, said: “This has been a truly terrible incident for Hertfordshire, and I cannot imagine what the family and friends of the victims are going through following this tragic and senseless waste of life. They have my deepest condolences and sympathies. It’s impossible to understand that such horrendous crimes have taken place in a residential street in a quiet part of Hertfordshire.

“The police search for the suspect has now concluded. I would like to thank all of the police officers and staff from Hertfordshire and neighbouring forces for the professionalism and hard work they have demonstrated during a distressing, high profile and rapidly unfolding operation. I would also like to thank the public for their help and co-operation.

“It is now important that the police are given the space to continue their investigation and the family the time to grieve in privacy.

“These murders are a tragic reminder of the regularity and severity of male violence against women and girls. Across society, we must redouble our efforts to tackle it. I will do everything I can as the new Police and Crime Commissioner in Hertfordshire to play my part.”
