Concerns have been raised about safety at Berkhamsted station as the ticket office is set to close until the end of January.
The station, which is managed by London Northwestern Railway (LNWR), will be unstaffed until the end of this month, which means the ticket office will be closed and passengers will have to use machines.
Usually, the station is staffed from 6am to 8pm on weekdays, 7am to 7pm on Saturdays, and 8am to 5pm on Sundays.
Staff at LNWR confirmed that the closure of the ticket office is due to extended leave for the only member of staff available.
Local commuter Charlotte Inkpen spoke to Berkhamsted News and said: “It worries me from a safety aspect but also, if the machines break, this could be a nightmare.
“I also worry the queues for the machines will be long and people won’t get a chance to buy a ticket before boarding.”
A spokesperson for LNWR said: “We are sorry that the ticket office at Berkhamsted station has been closed recently due to a shortage of staff.
“There are machines at the station to ensure customers have access to tickets and passenger assists are being undertaken by on-board traincrew.
“We are working to increase staff availability so we can keep the facilities at Berkhamsted open as much as possible.”
