There has been major disruption in Watford Town Centre today (Monday, April 12) after a traffic incident on the A411 Exchange Road.

It comes on the day that the High Street reopens non-essential shops as lockdown restrictions ease.

Police were at the scene until around 2.30pm and advised people to avoid the area where possible.

Hertfordshire Police said in a statement earlier today: “We are currently at the scene of a traffic incident on the A411 Exchange Road in Watford and road closures are in place.

The closures are causing significant congestion and are expected to be in place for several hours.

We advise motorists to avoid the area where possible and would like to thank them for their patience while we deal with the incident.”

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “An ambulance and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance responded to a road traffic incident on Exchange Road in Watford just after 10.15am this morning. An adult male was transported by land to St Mary’s Hospital in London for treatment, with medics from the air ambulance also accompanying to provide additional assistance.”

Police are currently unable to provide more information but an update is expected to follow.
